What does MPCC bring to the credibility of cycling?
Roger LEGEAY
President of MPCC
« MPCC is a complementary tool in the fight against doping. Today’s regulations are not sufficient to eradicate doping in the world of sports. The concept of voluntary basis has not been explored enough in sport, whereas it is a real complement to the World Anti-Doping Agency, to the police, etc. Riders, staff members, teams, federations, sponsors: they all commit to this voluntary basis.
MPCC gathers people that are able to make decisions and choices in order to respect a certain philosophy and allow cycling to be more credible. A manager decides who he hires and fires, and can make the choice of not hiring a former suspended rider, for example. Each and every category has its own role to play and its own decision-making power.
MPCC is all about the promise of committing to its regulations and being entirely transparent. Since its creation in 2007, MPCC has never violated this rule. If a team does not respect the rules, then it shall be expelled.
Discipline and commitment to strict regulations in the fight against doping are what make MPCC a credible stakeholder of this fight, but it also empowers every member of the movement. I firmly believe that if every team committed with force to our philosophy, the constant suspicions around cycling would stop very quickly.
MPCC completes WADA on a voluntary basis and strongly contributes to the credibility of our sport. »
